Nattering Nanosys
USPN 6,872,645, titled "Methods of positioning and/or orienting nanostructures", just issued. Its owner, Nanosys, is tooting its tiny horn about it. 6,872,645 lays claim to nanowires longitudinally oriented along fluid-washed channels on semiconductor substrates.
For those of you who don't currently nano, here's the picture from Nanosys.

"We are extremely pleased to have received fundamental coverage for our nanoenabled electronics technology," crowed Calvin Chow, Nanosys CEO. "The strength of this technology resides both in its commercial potential to address multiple billion dollar market opportunities and its practical form of implementation."
Both the "multiple billion dollar market opportunities" and "its practical form of implementation" await realization, as currently, the four-year old Nanosys has no commercial products.
Nanosys natters in its press release: "Nanosys has built one of the broadest technology platforms in the industry with more than 350 patents and patent applications covering fundamental areas of nanotechnology."
Actually, Nanosys now has two U.S. patents, and 13 published U.S. patent applications. The 350 number must account for every duplicate international application filed. So, Nanosys at nanotechnology - good, maybe. Nanosys at math - not so good. If this is any indication, look to Nanosys to be a nano-leader in self-inflation.
