Translogic Zaps Hitachi, Renesas
As of last Friday, 5,162,666 "Transmission Gate Series Multiplexer" wears a price tag of $86.5 million to Hitachi & Renesas Technology America for infringing it. Worse for the infringers, a permanent injunction is imminent.
Hitachi's SH-4 and certain SH-3 microprocessors infringed, and Hitachi got nailed for inducement for two of its customers using infringing SuperH microprocessors in their products sold in the U.S.
Translogic Technology's enforcement action against Hitachi Japan & America, and Renesas Technology America, began in March 1999.
According to Translogic's attorney, Jeff Love of Portland, Oregon IP boutique Klarquist Sparkman, U.S. District Court Judge Owen M. Panner signaled a permanent injunction order imminent. Renesas Spokeswoman Akiko Ishiyama said the company would request for an emergency stay on the injunction.
Ms. Ishiyama, singed by infringement fire, waved the defiance flag of last resort by declaring that reexamination will invalidate the patent.
