Smug RIM

Research In Motion (RIM) is claiming satisfaction with its workaround to patent infringement of NTP patents, claiming that an injunction would not affect its Blackberry customers from receiving their wireless emails.

"Our customers can be calm that there won't be an interruption of service," asserted RIM's Co-Chief Executive Jim Balsillie. In unrelated news, all is well in Iraq.

RIM said it's putting the final touches on its patent workaround.  "It's a software upgrade that we're very, very comfortable with and we've done focus groups with and we're just finishing testing," said Balsillie. The market voted its comfort by nipping more than 4% off RIM's share price Wednesday.

Balsillie demurred in commenting on whether the proposed "workaround" has made RIM less likely to settle with NTP, nor did he comment on the financial overhang of paying for the already-incurred infringement. Get very, very comfortable, and pay no attention to that elephant in the room.
