Fortinet Bows To Trend Micro
Under
the gun, software antivirus maker Fortinet settled
with rival Trend Micro
in what had been a raging patent dispute, both in court and before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).
Last August, the ITC issued an injunction against Fortinet, having earlier determined infringement of Trend Micro's 5,623,600, covering server-based antivirus technology. This left resellers of Fortinet software wondering if their existing inventory could be sold. Fortinet released a new, supposedly non-infringing version of its FortiGate antivirus firewall in October. But recognizing that fear and doubt make lousy marketers, Fortinet joins competitors Symantec and McAfee in taking a license from Tokyo-based Trend Micro.
