Cash Cow
Posilac
is a cow growth hormone sold by Monsanto, one of those nasty things naturalists
who are smart enough not to drink milk complain about being in milk. But I
digress.
6,692,941 covers that bovine somatotropin. Too bad for Monsanto, having the
product, but not the patent.
But Monsanto was smart enough to pony up pre-trial, settling with '941 owner, The Regents of the University of California, for $100 million up front, and at least $5m per year until 2023, when '941 stops being a cash cow and joins the dead patent herd. The royalty renders total payout at least $200 million, and may exceed $1/4 billion. Moo-la.
