Whipping Post

The patent flogging of Vonage continues, this time by patent holding company Web Telephony, which asserted two patents against a slew of VOIP players and wannabes, including Vonage nemesis Verizon, as well as AT&T, Earthlink and SunRocket.

Web Telephony's rubber hose is 6,445,694, and its divisional, 6,785,266. The claimed technology goes towards using a web browser for handling voicemail and call processing according to user preferences.

The complaint was filed Wednesday in the Eastern District of Texas. Besides damages, Web Telephony fantasizes about an injunction.

Vonage just got pounded by Verizon, leaving a 58 million dollar bruise.
