Fully Charged
Good
patents carry a charge.
3M sued Sony and
others just this past March for infringing its lithium-ion battery cartridge
patents. 3M shot both barrels: district court and ITC; asking for damages, an
injunction, and attorneys' fees. Sony just settled.
The others named in the suits include Lenovo, CDW, Hitachi, and Total Micro Technologies. Consider them a bit slow. Matsushita and Panasonic settled at the end of May. Batteries.com took its license July 5.
3M spokesperson Donna Fleming Runyon: "3M remains interested in reaching resolution with other battery manufacturers that will further the use of the technology of lithium ion batteries."
