Madison Blues

AT&T sued Vonage Wednesday in the Western District of Wisconsin for infringing 6,487,200, of 1996 vintage, claiming basic VOIP using a regular telephone. This on the heels of settling with Sprint, and still wrangling with Verizon. AT&T and Vonage had been negotiating for some time prior to AT&T losing its patience.

The patent can be invalidated via a single infringing phone call to Patent Hawk.

The courthouse for the Western District of Wisconsin is in Madison Wisconsin. The song "Madison Blues" was penned by slide guitar pioneer Elmore James in the 1950s, later covered by the blues-drenched Peter Green incarnation of Fleetwood Mac in the late 1960s, and popularized anew by George Thorogood & the Destroyers in 1977.
