Pressing the Flash
SanDisk
owns a portfolio of over 800 patents worldwide related to flash memory.
Persistent persuasion is required. Pressed by assertions in Western Wisconsin court and
the ITC, PNY Technologies has just settled with a cross-licensing agreement.
In the same dual-track assertion, SanDisk is pressuring 24 other flash memory makers, including LG, Buffalo Technology, Kingston Technology, Verbatim, and Imation.
SanDisk is a busy patent bee.
SanDisk has another suit going against 15 companies for two other patents. The separate action is contingency in case the first court suit is stayed pending ITC resolution.
In another action, SanDisk wrestled STMicroelectronics into settlement.
Memorex, Ritek, Power Quotient International took licenses in another matter, while defendant Pretec Electronics took it on the chin in a default judgment.
